Object pronouns
Replace known people or things with me, you, him, her, it, us, or them after verbs/prepositions.
Understand the choice
English pronoun case is most visible in the pronoun set: she calls me; I call her. Identify the role rather than copying a person’s gender alone.
Core rule: Object pronouns differ from subject pronouns and normally follow the verb or preposition.
Notice it in context
I know Maya, so I call her every week.
Conozco a Maya, así que la llamo cada semana.
Her replaces Maya as direct object after call.
They send us the report, and we read it.
Our group receives the report and then reads the document.
Us is recipient object; it replaces report.
I speak with him, but I do not know them.
He is my conversation partner; those other people are unfamiliar.
Him follows preposition; them follows know.
What to remember
- You and it have the same subject/object form.
- After be in formal style whom/object forms vary, but everyday It’s me is standard.
Common trap: Do not use she after a verb as object: call her.
