Go: past simple
Use went for all subjects and did + go in questions.
Understand the choice
Went presents completed movement or attendance. Destination patterns remain go to a place, go home, and go by vehicle/on foot.
Core rule: Go has irregular past went for every subject; did questions/negatives use base go.
Notice it in context
We went to the market yesterday.
Fuimos al mercado ayer.
Went follows we without changing; to the market gives destination; yesterday closes past frame.
She went to the doctor by bus.
The bus took her to a medical appointment.
Went is unchanged with she; by bus gives means.
Did they go home early?
Was their journey home early?
Did carries past; go is base and home has no to.
What to remember
- Been is the past participle of be, not go in standard forms; gone is go’s participle.
- Went cannot combine with did in one simple past clause.
Common trap: Do not write did they went.
