Places in town
Ask where services are and locate them relative to landmarks.
Understand the choice
Town vocabulary should form a mental map. Each place becomes useful when connected to two landmarks and a route instruction.
Core rule: Use between A and B, opposite/across from, next to, behind, and in front of for map locations.
Notice it in context
The pharmacy is between the bank and the station.
La farmacia está entre el banco y la estación.
Between requires two reference points joined by and.
The supermarket is opposite the post office.
The large food shop faces the mail building.
Supermarket and post office form an opposite relation.
Behind the museum, the park begins near the town hall.
The green space starts behind the museum and close to local government.
Museum, park, and town hall make a three-place map.
What to remember
- Station can be train station, bus station, or service station by context.
- Drugstore overlaps pharmacy in US English but can sell broader goods.
Common trap: Do not say between the bank to the station.
