Business and negotiation

Search for workable terms without turning discussion into conflict.

Understand the choice

Negotiate without sounding adversarial: present a proposal, define conditions and deadlines, discuss the budget, and search for an agreement that serves both sides. Conditional forms turn corrections into collaborative options.

Core rule: An indefinite desired agreement triggers the subjunctive in the relative clause: que beneficie.

Notice it in context

Buscamos un acuerdo que beneficie a ambas partes.

We are seeking an agreement that benefits both parties.

An indefinite desired agreement triggers the subjunctive in the relative clause: que beneficie.

La propuesta supera nuestro presupuesto.

The proposal exceeds our budget.

Superar directly takes what is exceeded.

Podríamos revisar las condiciones.

We could review the terms.

The conditional makes a collaborative suggestion.

What to remember

  • Acuerdo is both an agreement and, in de acuerdo, the state of agreeing.
  • Plazo is a time limit or agreed term; fecha límite is the specific deadline date.

Common trap: Parte interesada means stakeholder or interested party; estar interesado is not automatically biased or self-serving in a negotiation.
