What to remember
- The participle never agrees with the speaker: he hablado and hemos hablado both keep hablado.
- Usage varies: Spain often prefers the present perfect for today or this week, while much of Latin America readily uses the preterite.
Common trap: Do not insert words between haber and the participle or make hablado plural: hemos ya hablados is wrong; say ya hemos hablado.
