Talk about the conditions outside and understand a basic forecast. Learn weather as complete expressions because Spanish divides it among hacer, hay, and llover.
Core rule: Use hacer with general weather conditions: hace calor, hace frío, hace sol, and hace viento.
Notice it in context
Hace calor, pero mañana hará frío.
It is hot, but tomorrow it will be cold.
Hace describes today's condition; hará is the future form used for tomorrow's forecast.
Hay muchas nubes y llueve.
There are many clouds and it is raining.
Hay presents clouds; llover describes rain.
La temperatura es de veinte grados.
The temperature is twenty degrees.
Use ser de + number + grados for a measured temperature.
What to remember
- Hace calor literally uses the noun heat.
- Use está nublado for it is cloudy and nieva for it is snowing.
Common trap: Do not say está calor; use hace calor for weather and tengo calor for how a person feels.
