Vivir: regular -ir present
Complete the regular present system with the -ir pattern.
Understand the choice
Vivir provides the basic present pattern for regular -ir verbs. Compare it with comer: four forms match, while nosotros and vosotros use -imos and -ís.
Core rule: Regular -ir present endings are -o, -es, -e, -imos, -ís, -en; vivir uses the unchanged stem viv-.
Notice it in context
Vivo en Varsovia, pero vivimos cerca del centro.
I live in Warsaw, but we live near the center.
Vivo identifies the speaker; vivimos includes the speaker and others.
¿Dónde vives ahora?
Where do you live now?
Vives is the tú form in a location question.
Sus padres viven en Chile.
His parents live in Chile.
Viven agrees with the plural subject padres.
What to remember
- Use vivir en before a city or country.
- Abrir and escribir share the regular -ir ending pattern.
Common trap: Do not use ser for live; the verb is vivir and the location follows en.
