Understand the choice
Name the main spaces in a home and place them relative to one another. This set supports apartment descriptions, directions, and everyday chores.
Core rule: Use estar to locate rooms and al lado de for next to; de + el contracts to del.
Notice it in context
El dormitorio está al lado del baño.
The bedroom is next to the bathroom.
Está locates one room; al lado del includes the required de + el contraction.
Comemos en el comedor.
We eat in the dining room.
En introduces the room where an activity happens.

What to remember
- Salón is a common word for living room in Spain; sala is widespread too.
- Baño can mean bathroom or bath depending on context.
Common trap: Do not use ser for physical location; say el baño está aquí.
