Core rule: Months and seasons are lowercase and commonly follow en when naming when something happens.
Notice it in context
Mi curso empieza en septiembre y termina en junio.
My course starts in September and ends in June.
Both months follow en and remain lowercase.
Mi cumpleaños es en marzo.
My birthday is in March.
Ser identifies the date period; en introduces the month.
En invierno anochece temprano.
In winter it gets dark early.
A season can follow en without an article.
What to remember
- Septiembre and setiembre are both accepted, with septiembre more widespread.
- Use el verano when speaking about summer as a topic, but en verano for in summer.
Common trap: Do not copy English capitalization into Spanish month and season names.
