Móc: conditional

Make requests and possibilities tactful with mógłby-/mogłaby-.

Understand the choice

Mógłby creates distance in a request and presents a possibility dependent on circumstances. Formal pani takes third-person feminine mogłaby.

Core rule: Conditional móc uses past forms mógł/mogła/mogli/mogły + by + personal endings.

Notice it in context

Czy mogłaby pani wysłać mi kopię?

Could you send me a copy?

Mogłaby agrees with formal pani; wysłać is requested perfective action; mi dative recipient.

Moglibyśmy spotkać się jutro.

We could meet tomorrow.

Moglibyśmy marks masculine/mixed my; spotkać się is bounded possibility.

Czy mogłybyście poczekać chwilę?

Could you women wait a moment?

Mogłybyście marks all-female wy.

What to remember

  • Mógł is masculine with ó; mogła feminine with o.
  • Mogę is real present ability; mógłbym hypothetical/polite.

Common trap: Do not use może pani when a softer request is intended; mogłaby pani is more tactful.
