Wychodzić: present tense
Describe habitual leaving or going out and contrast one event wyjść.
Understand the choice
Wychodzić suits routine, process, or repeated going out. The prefix wy- gives outward direction, while the aspect partner changes the stem.
Core rule: Wychodzić is imperfective; z + genitive marks origin. Perfective wyjść gives one completed/future exit.
Notice it in context
Wychodzę z biura o szóstej, a oni wychodzą później.
I leave the office at six, and they leave later.
Wychodzę is first singular; z biura is genitive origin; wychodzą is plural.
Wychodzimy z przyjaciółmi w piątek.
We go out with friends on Friday.
Wychodzimy agrees with my; z przyjaciółmi instrumental company.
Muszę wyjść za pięć minut.
I must leave in five minutes.
Perfective wyjść frames one upcoming departure.
What to remember
- Wyjść uses future forms wyjdę, wyjdziesz… despite no separate future auxiliary.
- Chodzić/wychodzić differs from iść/wyjść by aspect and directionality.
Common trap: Do not use wychodzę for a single completed future promise when wyjdę is intended.
