Household chores

Learn chores as aspect-aware action–object pairs.

Understand the choice

A chore list is memorable through collocations and imperfective routine verbs. Perfective partners such as posprzątać present completion.

Core rule: Robić pranie, wynosić śmieci, myć naczynia, and odkurzać mieszkanie are common chores.

Notice it in context

Dzisiaj sprzątam kuchnię, robię pranie i wynoszę śmieci.

Today I clean the kitchen, do laundry, and take out rubbish.

Sprzątam/robię/wynoszę share ja; kitchen is accusative; pranie and śmieci are task objects.

Pranie schnie, a zmywarka myje naczynia.

The laundry dries, and the dishwasher washes dishes.

Pranie and zmywarka are subjects; myć appears via myje.

Lubię zamiatać, porządkować i prasować rano.

I like sweeping, tidying, and ironing in the morning.

Three listed chore infinitives appear exactly.

What to remember

  • Śmieci is plural-only; one piece is śmieć.
  • Myć is wash; prać is wash clothes/laundry.

Common trap: Do not translate take out rubbish with brać na zewnątrz; wynosić śmieci.
