Travel essentials

Combine destination, luggage, documents, booking, and accommodation.

Understand the choice

A compact trip begins with ticket and passport, continues with luggage and destination, and ends in a reserved room. Learn destination forms with do because city names change.

Core rule: Do + genitive marks most city destinations; w + locative marks accommodation location.

Notice it in context

Jedziemy do Gdańska i nocujemy w małym hotelu.

We are going to Gdańsk and staying in a small hotel.

Do Gdańska is genitive destination; w małym hotelu is locative accommodation with adjective agreement.

Walizka i paszport są w pokoju.

The suitcase and passport are in the room.

Two travel items form a plural subject; w pokoju is locative.

Rezerwacja i bilet są w telefonie obok mapy.

The booking and ticket are on the phone beside the map.

Rezerwacja, bilet, telefon, and mapa connect documents and storage.

What to remember

  • Nocować means stay overnight; mieszkać suggests live/stay for a broader period.
  • Travel to countries also often uses do + genitive: do Polski.

Common trap: Do not use do + nominative city: do Gdańska.
