Rooms at home
Locate activities with w + locative and learn common room forms.
Understand the choice
Room forms are worth learning as full chunks because locative endings and stem changes vary. Attach one habitual activity to each place.
Core rule: Static location uses w + locative: w kuchni, w salonie, w ogrodzie.
Notice it in context
Jemy w kuchni i śpimy w sypialni.
We eat in the kitchen and sleep in the bedroom.
W kuchni and w sypialni show feminine locatives; verbs identify plural we without my.
Biurko stoi w salonie obok balkonu.
The desk is in the living room near the balcony.
W salonie is locative; obok balkonu genitive.
Rowery są w piwnicy, nie w ogrodzie.
The bicycles are in the basement, not in the garden.
Piwnicy and ogrodzie are two locative forms.
What to remember
- Ogród changes ó→o in some forms: w ogrodzie.
- Pokój can mean room generally; salon is living room.
Common trap: Do not say w kuchnia. Use the locative w kuchni.
