Pić: present tense

Use pij- forms and practice drink objects in accusative.

Understand the choice

The visible pij- stem supports a regular person pattern. Feminine drink nouns show accusative -ę, making the form useful for both conjugation and object case.

Core rule: Pić has piję, pijesz, pije, pijemy, pijecie, piją.

Notice it in context

Piję wodę, a moi przyjaciele piją kawę.

I drink water, and my friends drink coffee.

Piję identifies ja and takes wodę; piją agrees with friends and takes kawę.

Pijesz dużo wody?

Do you drink a lot of water?

Dużo takes genitive wody.

Pijemy sok, ale dzieci piją mleko.

We drink juice, but the children drink milk.

Pijemy/piją contrast subjects; inanimate objects look nominative.

What to remember

  • The perfective partner wypić means drink/finish a bounded amount.
  • Pić can mean drink alcohol without an object in context.

Common trap: Do not omit j in present forms: piję, pijesz.
