News and media literacy

Check a source, date, evidence, and the difference between reporting and opinion.

Understand the choice

A reliable reading habit asks who published the claim, when, on what evidence, and whether independent sources confirm it. Vocabulary should serve that process.

Core rule: Verificare una fonte, citare prove, diffondere una voce, and distinguere fatti da opinioni support media literacy.

Notice it in context

Prima di condividere l’articolo, verifico la fonte e la data di pubblicazione.

Before sharing the article, I check the source and publication date.

Prima di governs condividere; fonte and data are direct objects of verifico.

Il titolo esagera il contenuto del servizio.

The headline exaggerates the report’s content.

Titolo is framing; servizio is the reported piece.

La voce circola senza una prova attendibile.

The rumor circulates without reliable evidence.

Voce and prova contrast claim and support.

What to remember

  • Attuale means current, not actual; reale/effettivo cover actual.
  • Una voce can mean rumor or voice depending on context.

Common trap: Do not call every claim una prova; evidence must independently support it.
