Digital Italian mixes native verbs with invariable loan nouns. Scaricare downloads, caricare uploads or charges, salvare saves, and cliccare su follows a link.
Core rule: An indirect pronoun precedes the finite verb; scaricare/caricare direction depends on object and context.
Notice it in context
Scarico il file e ti mando il collegamento.
I download the file and send you the link.
Scarico takes file; ti is recipient before mando; collegamento is the sent object.
Ho dimenticato la password e non posso aprire il messaggio.
I forgot the password and cannot open the message.
Password and messaggio identify the access problem.
Lo schermo è nero mentre carico il telefono.
The screen is black while I charge the phone.
Schermo is the symptom; carico takes telefono in charging context.
What to remember
- File and password are normally invariable in the plural.
- Link is very common beside collegamento.
Common trap: Do not add Italian plural endings to file or password.
