Classroom language
Follow plural instructions and ask for help with useful learning nouns.
Understand the choice
Classroom vocabulary becomes active through commands: open a book, write a sentence, read a word, ask a question, and give an answer. The addressed group is encoded in -te.
Core rule: The voi imperative of regular verbs matches the present voi form and omits the subject pronoun.
Notice it in context
Aprite il libro e scrivete la frase sul quaderno.
Open the book and write the sentence in the notebook.
Aprite and scrivete are voi commands; libro and frase are direct objects; sul quaderno gives the writing surface.
Non capisco questa parola e faccio una domanda.
I do not understand this word and ask a question.
Parola is the unknown item; fare una domanda is the standard phrase.
La risposta è scritta sulla lavagna.
The answer is written on the board.
Risposta is subject and lavagna appears after sulla.
What to remember
- Fare una domanda means ask a question; chiedere can also introduce what is asked.
- Lavagna is a classroom board; tavola is a table/board in other contexts.
Common trap: Do not retain voi in an ordinary command: aprite il libro.
