Werden for the future

Conjugate werden and place the predicted action as an infinitive at the end.

Understand the choice

German future forms mark prediction, intention, or confident assumption more than mere calendar time. The conjugated werden opens a bracket and the content infinitive closes it.

Core rule: Future I is present werden + a final infinitive; present tense with a future adverb is often an alternative.

Notice it in context

Die Preise werden im nächsten Jahr wahrscheinlich steigen.

Prices will probably rise next year.

Werden agrees with plural Preise; time and probability fill the middle; steigen is final.

Ich werde dir morgen antworten.

I will answer you tomorrow.

Werde opens the future frame; antworten is final.

Wirst du später zu Hause sein?

Will you be at home later?

Wirst begins the question; two-word infinitive idea zu Hause sein closes.

What to remember

  • Present German often expresses scheduled future: morgen fahre ich nach Berlin.
  • Future werden can express a present assumption: Er wird jetzt zu Hause sein.

Common trap: Do not conjugate both verbs: die Preise werden steigen, not werden steigen werden.
