Werden in the present passive
Conjugate werden and finish with a past participle to focus on the affected thing.
Understand the choice
Passive werden shifts attention from the actor to the process or affected entity. The finite auxiliary agrees with the new subject, while the past participle remains at the clause end.
Core rule: The process passive is present werden + past participle; von + dative can identify the agent.
Notice it in context
Die Anträge werden jeden Montag geprüft.
The applications are reviewed every Monday.
Werden agrees with plural Anträge; geprüft closes the passive bracket; jeden Montag marks routine.
Der Bericht wird von einer Fachperson gelesen.
The report is read by a specialist.
Wird agrees with Bericht; von introduces the agent; gelesen is final.
Wann werdet ihr informiert?
When will you be informed?
Werdet agrees with ihr in a present passive question; context may also suggest future, but participle signals passive.
What to remember
- The state passive uses sein + participle: die Tür ist geschlossen.
- An impersonal passive is possible: Es wird getanzt.
Common trap: Do not add geworden to the ordinary present passive. Use wird geprüft.
