Describe a route through forests, mountains, rivers, and coastlines.
Understand the choice
Landscape vocabulary is memorable as a route. A Wanderweg leads through a Wald, along a Fluss, over a Berg, and toward a See or Strand. Prepositions reveal the geometry.
Core rule: Durch takes accusative; bis zu takes dative and marks an endpoint.

Der Wanderweg führt durch den Wald bis zu einem ruhigen See.
The hiking trail leads through the forest to a quiet lake.
Durch den Wald is accusative path; bis zu einem See gives the endpoint.
Vom Berg sieht man den Fluss und die ganze Landschaft.
From the mountain you can see the river and entire landscape.
Berg is the viewpoint; Fluss and Landschaft are visible objects.
Auf der Insel gibt es einen langen Strand.
On the island there is a long beach.
Insel is location; Strand is accusative after es gibt.
What to remember
- Der See is a lake; die See can mean the sea, especially in compounds or literary use.
- Der Fluss is a river; Strom may mean a large river, electric current, or flow.
Common trap: Do not confuse der See with die See; the article changes lake into sea.
