Understand the choice
Airport language appears on screens and in announcements. Link Flugnummer, Abflugzeit, Gate, Bordkarte, and Gepäck into the traveler’s sequence from check-in through boarding.
Core rule: Verspätung haben describes delay; Gepäck is normally a mass noun and einchecken is separable.
Notice it in context
Unser Flug hat Verspätung, aber das Gate ist noch offen.
Our flight is delayed, but the gate is still open.
Flug and Gate are subjects; hat Verspätung is the ordinary delay expression.
Wir checken unser Gepäck am Schalter ein.
We check in our luggage at the counter.
Gepäck is the object; separable ein closes the clause.
Die Ankunft verschiebt sich wegen der Verspätung.
The arrival is postponed because of the delay.
Ankunft and Verspätung name the schedule and its cause.
What to remember
- Gepäck has no ordinary plural; ein Gepäckstück is one item.
- Gate is neuter in German: das Gate.
Common trap: Do not say der Flug ist spät for a scheduled delay; der Flug hat Verspätung is clearer.
