Connect separable verbs into a realistic morning and evening sequence.
Understand the choice
Routine vocabulary becomes memorable as a timeline. Put clock time next to the action and note which infinitives carry a prefix that separates in an ordinary present-tense clause.
Core rule: In a main clause, a separable prefix moves to the end: ich stehe auf, ich kaufe ein.
Notice it in context
Ich stehe um sieben Uhr auf und frühstücke in der Küche.
I get up at seven and eat breakfast in the kitchen.
Stehe is in second position and auf closes its clause; frühstücke remains one word.
Nach der Arbeit kaufe ich ein und koche.
After work I shop and cook.
Einkaufen separates to kaufe…ein after a fronted time phrase.
Am Abend lerne ich noch eine Stunde und schlafe dann.
In the evening I study for another hour and then sleep.
Lerne and schlafe maintain verb-second order in coordinated routine steps.
What to remember
- Frühstücken is a verb; das Frühstück is the noun.
- A separable prefix stays attached in an infinitive: ich möchte aufstehen.
Common trap: Do not leave auf next to stehe in a basic main clause: ich stehe auf.
