Understand the choice
Airport French appears both in conversation and on information screens. Connect enregistrer les bagages, porte d’embarquement, heure de départ, and vol retardé into one journey from check-in to the aircraft.
Core rule: Partir de names the departure point; avoir du retard is the ordinary phrase for being delayed.
Notice it in context
Mon vol part de la porte douze et a du retard.
My flight leaves from gate twelve and is delayed.
Part de identifies the gate as origin; a du retard uses avoir + partitive noun.

Where can I check in my luggage?
Pouvoir + infinitive asks where the action is possible.
L’embarquement commence à six heures.
Boarding starts at six.
Commencer gives the scheduled start time.
What to remember
- Bagages is normally plural for luggage; un bagage is one item.
- Enregistrer means check in luggage, record sound, or save computer data depending on the object.
Common trap: Do not use être en retard for the flight and avoir du retard interchangeably without nuance: the flight a du retard; a passenger est en retard.
